German Association of Orthopaedic Technology

The German Association of Orthopaedic Technology takes an active part in financing the health system in Germany by working out agreements on framing conditions and prices with the medical insurance companies on various product groups. The first agreements on the supply of medical compression stockings have been reached, further agreements are to follow.

Apart from individual consultations and the information service BIVdirekt the German Association carries out interfirm comparisons, consultations on quality management and health and safety protections, assistance in putting laws into practice and basic research. In 2006 a trade report on the framing data of the orthopaedic trade was published.

The German Association regularly organizes the ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK, an international world congress and trade fair. The event ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK in 2006 closed its gates with a record attendance: more than 15,000 expert visitors came to the Leipzig Fair to learn about innovative and proven treatment components for the disabled, the sick and the aged, as well as about medical aids for the treatment of sports injuries and those resulting from accidents. The next congress and trade fair will take place from 21 May to 24 May 2008 in Leipzig.

The department of press and public relations informs the daily and the specialist media about the association's activities and about their members' performances. Guilds and companies are supported in advertising as well as in reaching the target groups. Services (means of advertising, insurances) are provided in cooperation with external suppliers.

The specialist journal ORTHOPÄDIE-TECHNIK is the leading German journal and is published by the publishing company of the same name. A wide offer of specialist literature and electronic media completes the range of services. At the congress and fair in Leipzig in 2002 the first edition of the English specialist journal OTQuarterly was published.

The Bundesfachschule für Orthopädie-Technik ( Federal Technical College) www.ot-bufa.de in Dortmund has nearly no competition all over Europe. Apart from the training of 32 master craftsmen per year specialists from Germany, Europe and even from overseas are being instructed. There is a growing demand for these courses, because not only craftsmanship but also medical knowledge and business management are taught. The courses range from management seminars to manufacturing technology and patient care management.

Since 1997 the OT-forum in the internet www.ot-forum.de has been presented. It is the forum for the latest news and for a specialist archive.
