The ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK 2010 ended with both exhibitors’ and visitors’ overwhelming resonance
The globally leading trade fair ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK 2010 ended and was a great success. From 12 May to 15 May, 21,200 visitors from 108 countries attended the ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK trade fair, which is equivalent to a growth of 17 % compared to the last time in 2008 (18,100 visitors from 83 countries). For the first time ever, the ISPO World Congress with some 2,600 visitors took place in the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) at the same time from 10 May to 15 May. Thus, the two most important events in orthopaedics technology around the globe – trade fair and the congress – were combined in Leipzig.
UEAPME Healthcare: New Commissioner-Designate for Health
John Dalli has been nominated as new Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy. He is the Maltese minister for Social Policy since March 2007. (see CV attached) Mr. Dalli will be responsible for the Directorate General Health and Consumer (SANCO). The Units ENTR F.2 and F.3 responsible for pharmaceutical products, medical devices and cosmetics will move form DG Enterprise to DG SANCO, and consequently also the European Medicines Agency.
In May 2010, the world’s two foremost events addressing the provision of patients with prostheses and orthoses as well as rehabilitation technology will be staged together for the first time ever. The 13th World Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) will be held from 10-15 May at Congress Center Leipzig. And ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK will open as the world’s leading expo in its field, where around 470 companies will be displaying their products and services from 12–15 May.
Living outside of “the box” after amputation - Sporting Prosthetics Success
Hampden National Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland saw the University of Strathclyde’s National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics host the inaugural Sporting Prosthetics, SPEEAD scientific conference on Thursday 3rd September 2009. This, the third knowledge exchange event in the SPEEAD 2009 calendar, was attended by 100 delegates comprising healthcare professionals, educators and researchers.
Touch Bionics opens UK Centre of Excellence for amputees
Touch Bionics, developer of the world’s first multi-articulating bionic hand, today announced the opening of its UK Centre of Excellence, located in Livingston, Scotland. The Rt. Hon. Jim Murphy MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, was in attendance to officially declare the world-class facility open.
This third edition of the MARE newsletter focuses on the new Dynamic Project Repository available on the MARE website. The Dynamic Repository consists of a database of European and National programmes and projects in the sector of Assistive Technology.
